An Adopted Son Explores the Landscape of Family

This haunting memoir seeks to define many dimensions of the human drama. Its poetic quality will make you remember this story long after you finish the book. Chisholm's essay "Mama Bear," the seed for this book, was originally published by The Utne Reader and read by Rosie O'Donnell on "The Rosie Show." THROUGH YUP'IK EYES has received exceptional national praise, including a starred review in Library Journal:

"In a beautiful blend of memoir, essay, and historical fiction, Chisholm explores the meaning of family from a multicultural perspective in his first book...Mother's and son's experiences are effortlessly intertwined. This is an exceptional work, both for its insights into family and its literary style. Highly recommended..."
    --Library Journal

"Richly detailed and skillfully crafted...His insights into adoption are deftly rendered and celebratory, making his book an engrossing meditation on the many ways that "family" can be a curiously expansive term--making this a good choice for reading group discussions."
    --Publishers Weekly
